We leave Tuesday, 5/25/21 for our first trip of the year!
This summer will be very different from our normal 30 hr drive west to Colorado; instead, we will travel 10 hrs northeast to within 7 miles of New Brunswick, Canada. We like to get lost in the middle of nowhere, and the Allagash is it in the East. Campers will be canoeing through beautiful clean water and forest, New England at it finest.
This adventure explores the ecology, conservation and history of the region, as well as dealing with the preservation and management of biodiversity and natural resources. This problem is emerging rapidly as a result of. We will discuss the accelerating deterioration of natural systems and the worldwide epidemic of species extinctions and more while paddling 100 miles on this amazing river.
Unplugged in the middle of nature
Nothing tastes better than a meal cooked over an open fire. No, we don't eat traditional camping meals. We eat well! Canoes offer one of the only non-motorized ways of effortlessly carrying hundreds of pounds of supplies. Imagine falling asleep at night to the sound of loons, coyotes and, if we are lucky, wolves. Then you wake to the smell of bacon and pancakes cooking over the fire.
Speaking of being in the middle of nowhere, we just purchased satellite communication for this adventure which we never needed in the most remote parts of America: Canyonlands in Utah and Yellowstone in Wyoming. We will be updating you via text message all summer long with photos when we have internet connections between trips.
Dates
We are totally flexible with dates. We will be filling trips on a first-come basis from June through September. Round up a group or join others, pick a date and we can make it work. The full 93-mile trip will take approximately 2 weeks. Shorter, 1-week trips are also available.
Pricing
$1,245 for a custom 1-week trip (7 days).
$1,800 for a custom 2-week trip (14 days).
Fishing
We know the popularity of fishing at summer camp. If you are so inclined, the Allagash has a bountiful population of native brook trout, lake trout (togue) and lake whitefish. A fishing license is required costing $47 for the trip; bring your rod and gear be it spinning or fly. Call for details.
Canoe knowledge
All we ask is that you have an open and willing and adventurous mind. We can teach you the basics required to have a fantastic trip. There is plenty of time at the beginning of the trip to practice on lakes before we get to the river fun.
