Due to the weather, we have postponed the concert to March 26th.
Long-time friends Charlie Shafer- Fire in the Kitchen and the Kimberlys- American Wanderer are joining forces to bring an incredible evening of music to the Norfield Grange in Weston, CT.
Fun Fact: Fire in the Kitchen is on sort of a roll...in the past two years, three of the young bands we've introduced at the outdoor concerts have been picked up by a pretty superb booking agency, hopefully launching them to the stars and beyond.
One of these is Rakish, made up of Maura Shawn Scanlin and Conor Hearn, who are the main players in Pumpkin Bread Band, seen in August at the Rettich Preserve. Rakish was primarily a Celtic duo, Maura Shawn having won the world Scots fiddling championship. But, when you're really good, you're really good, and you can do pretty much everything. It's no surprise then that this tune, an original, old-timey feel thing, is as exceptional as everything else they do. And they'll be visiting us the Saturday before St. Paddy's day in March, but with a twist. It'll be Fire In The (Grange) Kitchen along with American Wanderer Foundation. Rakish YouTube
is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity. Our mission is to connect today’s youth with the natural and historic wonders of America and educate them to become our future stewards. Kids love learning about their own world, and the 83 million acres of the National Parks is a great place to do it. If you haven't been to the National Parks out west you owe it to yourself to go. If you have been then you know exactly what we mean. Many don’t realize the value of using the wonders this country has to offer. Research has shown that environmental education has a huge benefit for all Kids. They grow more engaged in their work and perform better in every subject. Connect education with the real world. Physically place a kid in the canyons of Utah, the wonders of Yellowstone, or any of the parks we explore and see their eyes open and watch the knowledge pour in. They experience nature first hand - to see it, touch it, climb on it, hike it, explore it, breathe it, smell it, learn about it and experience a healthy lifestyle.
We believe that ALL children regardless of financial ability should be given the opportunity to learn about the wonders of America. We are currently developing future programs to do the same thing for physically handicapped youth. In doing this they cannot avoid being changed for life in their outlook and understanding of all the wonders around us. "Get into the National Parks and experience for real what you could never learn from just reading a book, looking at a picture, or watching a movie.”
Help us help them make a difference and change the world. Together, one child at a time, we can make the world a better place for them and ultimately all of us by creating the future stewards of our planet.
